With an all-star performance, the Grammys will commemorate 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop

Missy Elliott, Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash, Queen Latifah, RUN-DMC, Lil Wayne, Rakim, and more will perform Sunday to celebrate this momentous moment in music history.

The Grammys will feature an all-star performance by the Recording Academy to commemorate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, featuring Missy Elliott, Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash, Queen Latifah, RUN-DMC, Lil Wayne, Rakim, and more.

The Grammys’ previous host LL Cool J will open the segment and pay tribute to hip-hop, the academy announced on Thursday. In addition to leading his band The Roots onstage and narrating, Questlove will serve as the musical director and producer. Black Thought will also perform.

De La Soul, Big Boi, Scarface, Salt-N-Pepa, and Spinderella will also perform, along with Grandmaster Mele Mel and Scorpio/Ethiopian King, Ice-T, Busta Rhymes with Spliff Star, The Lox, Method Man, Raheim, Lil Baby, Too $hort, Future, Nelly, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Swizz Beatz, and DJ Drama and GloRilla.

Along with Jesse Collins, Patrick Menton of Fulwell 73, Fatima Robinson, a choreographer and creative producer, and Questlove’s manager and president of LNU, Shawn Gee, the section will be produced by Questlove.

Hip-hop has had a significant impact on our culture over the past five decades, according to Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy. Its contributions to society, politics, sports, and the arts cannot be emphasized. I’m so happy that we are celebrating it on the Grammy stage in such a grand manner. Our year-long celebration of this crucial musical style has just begun.

The show is a component of Paramount’s celebration of hip-50th hop’s anniversary. CBS will broadcast a special hip-hop music event later this year.

Trevor Noah will host the Grammys, which will air live on CBS from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Kendrick Lamar is the top-nominated rapper competing for eight honors, including album, song, and record of the year. Others from rap nominated for awards include Jay-Z, DJ Khaled, Drake, Pusha T, Future, Latto, Young Tung, Gunna, and Jack Harlow.
