On the “Tonight Show,” Jimmy Fallon responds to death rumors with, “I’m Alive! ”
The late-night host made light of the scurrilous #RIPJimmyFallon hashtag that had been trending on Twitter for the last few days.
Jimmy Fallon’s death rumors on social media have been highly overstated, as The Tonight Show‘s broadcast on Wednesday night directly addressed concerns on Twitter.
A revivalist gospel choir sang “he’s alive!” as Fallon’s program began, and the late-night host responded with the chant, “I’m alive!”
In his monologue, he brought it up once more. The hashtag #RIPJimmyFallon has been trending on Twitter over the past 24 hours, Fallon claimed. “I don’t know if you guys saw this,” Fallon remarked. He made light of the ongoing controversy surrounding Taylor Swift tour tickets by saying, “Even worse, when they learned I died, Ticketmaster pulled me out of line for Taylor Swift tickets.”
He continued, “Right after it happened, though, I was so touched that NBC immediately called and asked, ‘How can we turn this into another Law & Order?’”
Fallon then spoke about his efforts to disprove the false information spreading on social media. The second most popular trend on Twitter was #RIPJimmyFallon. I did all in my power to lower it. Even the hashtag #RIPPEDJimmyFallon was an attempt. I felt it could be helpful,” he stated as he displayed an image of his head placed over Ryan Gosling’s torso, who was portraying Ken in the Barbie movie.
The more naughty portion of Twitter started using #RIPJimmyFallon on Tuesday, and users frequently posted the hashtag alongside images of people other than Fallon.
The Tonight Show host asked Twitter CEO Elon Musk for assistance in removing the hashtag in an effort to combat fake news. Fallon asked Elon to solve the issue in a tweet. #RIPJimmyFallon.” Mr. Musk, who has taken a highly personal approach to content moderation since he took over Twitter, responded to Fallon’s tweet Wednesday morning with “Fix what?”
