According to Page Six, which broke the news of the new pair first, the A Star Is Born actor/director, 47, and Abedin, 45.
The top aide to Hillary Clinton — and former wife of disgraced politician Anthony Weiner — has been seeing the A-lister for the past few months, according to multiple insiders.
They were introduced by Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who is close with both of them.
“Anna definitely played matchmaker,” one well-placed source says. “She’s BFFs with Bradley and adores Huma.”
On May 2, Cooper and Abedin each went to the 2022 Met Gala individually in New York City. The high-profile pair arrived together at the Met Gala and then split up for the red carpet. Pictures show Abedin, 46, in a canary-yellow gown posing for the cameras, with Cooper, 47, keeping his distance behind her so as not to draw attention to their new relationship.
The well-placed source adds that Abedin “has told a few friends” she has a “new man … but she didn’t say who it was. She was keeping it very close to her chest. “They are perfect for each other,” the source says. “They’re both into power and politics and human affairs.”
Cooper and his ex-girlfriend Irina Shayk have a 5-year-old daughter named Lea De Seine. He split up with the 36-year-old model in 2019 after dating her for four years. Jordan, 10, is Abedin’s kid with Anthony Weiner, the disgraced former congressman who was her ex-husband. Abedin has been Hillary Clinton’s longtime assistant.
Last year, Abedin opened up in her book Both/And: A Life in Many Worlds about Weiner’s sex scandals and how the controversy affected the 2016 Clinton presidential campaign. She said in an October interview with CBS Sunday Morning that she’s “learned the full truth” of Weiner’s infidelities and wrongdoings and “I processed it, and I’ve moved on and I wish him well.”
Abedin replied when asked if she was mad at him, “I’m not able to live there any longer. I gave it a go. It nearly took my life.”
She discussed going to therapy and trying to get along with Weiner for the benefit of their child. “Because he is the father of my child, Anthony will always be a part of my life. I want to ensure that he is well, that our relationship is healthy, and that our youngster sees us model healthy conduct.”
Weiner, a former New York representative for the Democratic Party, was given a 21-month prison term in 2017 for sexting with a child. He spent nearly 15 months in the federal hospital in Devens, Massachusetts.
I was humiliated, had my heart destroyed, and was carried out and trampled. I endured shame for a very long time, Abedin said to The Cut. “In retrospect, I was under tremendous trauma.”
Wintour, according to Abedin, had been a big help. They went on movie dates, and while they were out and about, she made Abedin feel “kind of normal and loved.”
Abedin and Weiner, both 57, currently share a Union Square apartment and are co-parents.
Cooper has previously been candid about parenting his child with Shayk, who supported him at the red carpet premiere of his film Nightmare Alley in December.
Shayk told HIGHStyle magazine in September that Cooper is a “full-on, hands-on dad,” and she explained to British Vogue in 2020 that when it comes to her past relationship with Cooper, “I think we’ve been very lucky to experience what we had with each other.”
Cooper has been recently seen filming “Maestro” — a biopic on conductor Leonard Bernstein directed and starring the Oscar-nominated actor — in New York City.
