Shawn Mendes postpones tour dates to focus on his mental health

“The pressure has caught up to me,” the “Señorita” singer told fans over the weekend.

Shawn Mendes is giving his mental health some time.

The singer of “Senorita” revealed over the weekend that he is delaying the last dates of his “Wonder” world tour in order to give himself more time.

The 23-year-old musician announced that the upcoming three weeks of performances through Uncasville, Connecticut, would have to be postponed until further notice. “This breaks my heart to have to say this, but unfortunately I’m going to have to postpone the next three weeks of shows through Uncasville, CT until further notice,” he said.

He took to Instagram to post: “I’ve been touring since I was 15 and, to be honest it’s always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family,” he added. “After a few years off the road, I felt like I was ready to dive back in, but that decision was premature and unfortunately the toll of the road and the pressure has caught up to me and I’ve hit a breaking point.”

“After speaking with my team and health professionals, I need to take some time to heal and take care of myself and my mental health, first and foremost,” Mendes explained. “As soon as there are more updates, I promise I will let you know. Love you guys.”

Mendes’ tour kicked off in June. Dates are currently postponed through July 29, which affects concertgoers who were looking to see the singer in Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Washington, D.C., and Connecticut.

According to Mendes’ statement and his website, his next concert will be at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada, which is close to where the singer is from.

Mendes has previously disclosed that he began focusing more on his well-being after going through “a pretty dark phase” in his open and honest communication with fans regarding his mental health.

The performer admitted to GQ last year that her anxiety was so severe that she was no longer able to sing. All of it was in my throat, which many men report experiencing. These feelings frequently manifest in our bodies as pain, stiffness in the back and neck, and tension. I was no longer able to sing, and I had a habit of giving up. I did not want to give up.

In April 2022, fans of the “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back” singer expressed concern for him online after he posted a lengthy tweet about his feelings.

However, he quickly tried to reassure his fans, adding, “the truth is ALSO that I’m okay. I’m just tryna tell and be the truth. I like to think that maybe me saying this might resonate with some people.”

The tweet caused many fans to express concern about his mental health and well-being, which quickly prompted a follow-up tweet.

Many fans offered Shawn Mendes good wishes and expressed understanding and hope for a rapid recovery, despite some fans’ regret that several of his concert dates on the “Wonder: The World Tour” have been postponed.
