Shakira’s pointed Valentine’s day video features her lip-syncing to SZA’s revenge-themed song “Kill Bill”

Shakira and Gerard Piqué announced their separation in June, and he went Instagram official with his new girlfriend in January

Shakira, who recently got divorced, is sort of choosing vengeance over romance this Valentine’s Day.

The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer celebrated the romantic holiday on Tuesday with a decidedly unromantic video in which she was seen mopping her kitchen while lip-syncing to SZA’s “Kill Bill.”

Shakira, 46, and her longtime partner Gerard Piqué announced their breakup in June. On January 25, the former soccer star made her new relationship with Clara Chia Marti official on Instagram.

The lyrics of the Colombian superstar’s song choice, “Kill Bill,” are about a scorned woman who indulges in her craziest revenge fantasies in an effort to soothe her broken heart. This choice of song undoubtedly raised some eyebrows among fans.

Shakira and Gerard Pique arrive at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 18, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada

“I might kill my ex/Not the best idea/His new girlfriend’s next, how’d I get here?” Shakira sings in the video. “I might kill my ex/I still love him though/Rather be in jail than alone/I did it all for love.”

The singer omitted a caption from her video but provided plenty of information to fans in the lyrics of “BZRP Music Session #53,” a song she co-wrote with the Argentine producer Bizarrap.

The Spanish-language song seemed to be an in-depth exploration of her relationship with Piqué and its fallout, as well as her apparent choice to relocate to Miami with the couple’s sons Sasha, 8, and Milan, 10, from Barcelona.

“Sorry baby, I should have thrown you out a while ago / A she-wolf like me is not for rookies / A she-wolf like me is not for guys like you,” she sings on the track, nodding to her 2009 hit “She Wolf,” released shortly before the pair met in 2010. “I’m too good for you, and that’s why you’re with someone just like you.”

Later in the song, Shakira appears to directly reference the 23-year-old Marti.

I don’t even know what happened to you / I wish you luck with my supposed replacement, she sings. I’m worth twice as much as a 22-year-old. You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo, a Rolex for a Casio, and you’re moving too quickly. Spend a lot of time working out, but your brain also needs some exercise.

After meeting the year before on the set of her music video for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which served as the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Shakira and Piqué first publicly acknowledged their relationship in 2011.

In a joint statement released in June, they declared their separation.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the exes said at the time. “We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”
