Eagles player Joshua Sills charged with rape and kidnapping

Sills is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 16 in Cambridge, Ohio

Josh Sills, an offensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles, was charged with rape and kidnapping in Ohio just ten days before his team was scheduled to play in the Super Bowl.

According to the indictment, Sills, 25, is accused of committing the crimes after an encounter with a lady on December 5, 2019, in Guernsey County, Ohio.

Sills “purposefully coerced” the victim to “consent by force or fear of force” to sexual activity, claim the prosecution. The allegations relate to first-degree criminal rape.

The indictment claims that Sills “did, by force, menace, or fraud, take” the victim from “the site where she was found or constrain the liberty of her for the purpose of facilitating the commission of a felony.”

Sills was indicted by a grand jury this week following an investigation conducted by the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office. A court date for him to appear has been set for Feb. 16. in Cambridge, Ohio.

The Philadelphia Eagles stated in a statement to PEOPLE, “The company is informed about Josh Sills’ legal situation. We are currently obtaining further information and have been in contact with the league headquarters. At this moment, we have nothing additional to say.”

After Sills was passed over in the NFL draught, the Eagles signed him in 2022. The offensive guard made his season debut in Week 5 and participated in one game. On February 12 in Arizona, the Eagles will play the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
