Michelle Yeoh to get International Star Award at the Palm Springs Film Festival
The Film Awards will take place in person on Jan. 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
Michelle Yeoh’s performance in A24’s Everything Everywhere All At Once earned her the international star award for an actress at the 2023 Palm Springs International Film Awards.
The Palm Springs Film Festival runs through January 16; the Film Awards will be held there on January 5th.
Nicole Kidman, Helen Mirren, Saoirse Ronan, and Charlize Theron are past recipients of the honor, and Penelope Cruz, the winner from the previous year, afterward received an Academy Award nomination for best actress. Cate Blanchett (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress), Colin Farrell (Desert Palm
Achievement Award, Actor), and Sarah Polley is some of this year’s previously announced honorees (Director of the Year Award).
“Michelle Yeoh is everything in the exhilarating film Everything Everywhere All at Once. In one of the most memorable roles of her career, Yeoh plays Evelyn Wang, a Chinese American woman who is recruited to save the multiverse,” says Festival Chairman Harold Matzner. “For this film that is a fantastic showcase for Michelle Yeoh, it is our honor to present her with the international star award, actress.”
Yeoh plays an overburdened immigrant mother in Everything Everywhere All At Once who must utilize her newly discovered skills to defend her family while fending off threats throughout the multiverse. Along with Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu, James Hong, and others star. Eight Independent Spirit Award nominations have been made for the movie thus far, including best feature and best lead performance for Yeoh.
Yeoh recently finished filming Kenneth Branagh’s A Haunting in Venice, and his upcoming projects include The Witcher: Blood Origin on Netflix, American Born Chinese on Disney+, and The Brothers Sun on Netflix. Her most recent projects include Jon M. Chu’s The Grandmaster, Star Trek: Discovery on CBS, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for Marvel, and The School for Good and Evil by Paul Feig.
