A “Star Wars” Movie is Being Created by Shawn Levy
The filmmaker has a full plate already, with ‘Deadpool 3’ up next.
The renowned Free Guy and Stranger Things creator and producer Shawn Levy are moving to the Star Wars universe. It is reported that the filmmaker is working on a project for Lucasfilm that he may eventually direct.
When exactly this endeavor might take place is unknown. Levy is on board to helm the upcoming third Deadpool film for Marvel Studios, but he already has a full schedule. Release day for that movie, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, is set for November 8, 2024. He and his 21 Laps are producing the final episodes of Stranger Things, and the fifth season is still in the writing stages with no firm release date. The revelation of Levy’s involvement in Star Wars was first revealed by Deadline.
Levy’s proposal is one of several potential movies that Lucasfilm is developing. Damon Lindelof and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy are each creating their own movies, and Taika Waititi is now working on a feature he will direct. Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, is also working as a producer on a Star Wars film. With The Acolyte starting production this week and Andor now streaming, Lucasfilm has a full schedule for streaming TV. The Mandalorian’s third season as well as the Ahsoka spinoff are also forthcoming.
The Adam Project, a time-traveling family movie starring Ryan Reynolds, was released by Levy in March. In it, Reynolds’ character wields a weapon that eerily resembles a lightsaber.
“If there was any doubt about my fanhood of Star Wars and all things a galaxy far, far away, I’ve eliminated that doubt,” Levy told The Hollywood Reporter at the time, hastening to note the weapon was not technically a lightsaber due to rights issues.
Levy is repped by WME.
