‘Dahmer’ is the ninth most-watched English-language series on Netflix all time
“Monster,” Ryan Murphy’s Jeffrey Dahmer series, is striking new ground. The series has become Netflix’s ninth most popular English-language TV show of all time in its second week on the Top 10 chart.
According to Variety, Dahmer has been viewed for 496.1 million hours in only 12 days, and at least 56 million homes have digested all 10 episodes (about 8.8 hours total) of the limited series. With 1.65 billion hours of viewing time, Squid Game’s first season is the most-watched non-English title of all time. Stranger Things Season 4 has collected 1.35 billion hours to date.
According to the streaming service’s online stats, Monster has had the greatest audience since Stranger Things Season 4 with approximately 197 million views.
Season 5 of Dynasty ranked high as well, with 44.6 million hours viewed during the September 26-October 2 watching window, ranking second only to Dahmer. Season 2 of Fate: The Winx Saga with 26.4 million hours viewed. Season 5 of Cobra Kai came in fourth place in its third week on Netflix with 20.8 million hours viewed. Other shows charting included Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons, The Crown, and Heartbreak High.
“Monster chronicles the story of one of America’s most notorious serial killers, largely told from the point of view of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims and delves deeply into the police incompetence and apathy that allowed the Wisconsin native to go on a multiyear killing spree,” according to the series synopsis.
The series depicts at least ten incidents in which Dahmer was almost captured but was finally released. The series is also intended to address white privilege, as Dahmer, a clean-cut, good-looking white man, was frequently granted a free pass by cops and judges who were merciful when he was charged with lesser crimes.”
Viewers who can’t get enough of Jeffrey Dahmer’s genuinely heinous deeds can set a reminder for October 7, when Netflix releases Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes.
