Meghan Markle is not one to hold back.

The Duchess of Sussex has opened up about her personal life during intimate chats centred on gender-specific prejudices and labels in each episode of her recently released podcast, Archetypes.

In the preview, she adds, “This is Archetypes – the podcast where we examine, explore, and disrupt the categories that aim to keep women back.” “I’ll speak with women who are all too aware of how these stereotypes shape our stories. And I’ll consult historians to figure out how we got here in the first place.”

Following its publication on August 23, the podcast has attracted a global following, topping Spotify rankings worldwide.

In addition to Serena Williams and Mariah Carey, Markle announced to The Cut that Constance Wu, Issa Rae, Lisa Ling, Margaret Cho, and Ziwe will feature in upcoming episodes.

The greatest disclosures in Markle’s Archetypes podcast range from the “negative connotation” she had about being dubbed “ambitious” when dating Prince Harry to giving Williams advice on her tennis retirement.

During the premiere episode of Archetypes, Markle told Williams about a traumatic encounter she had while on a royal tour of Africa with Prince Harry in 2019.

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor

The Duchess of Sussex stated that a fire broke out in the nursery where their baby, Archie Harrison, was residing while she and her husband were in Nyanga on an official engagement. When they returned to their car after learning the shocking news, Markle commended their “wonderful nanny” for protecting him.

Mariah Carey was a featured guest on Archetypes’ second episode, “The Duality of Diva,” where they discussed today’s negative implications of the word “diva” and being biracial.

The pop icon revealed that she “didn’t fit in” as a child due to her continual moving and living in divisive communities. “You know, it would be more of the Black area of town, or you could go to where my mom opted to reside, which was in the more, white districts,” Carey explained.

Carey, on the other hand, was a groundbreaking figure of representation and influence for Markle. While Markle acknowledged that fitting in is “extremely different for us since we’re light-skinned,” she recalled a time when she felt particularly stigmatised.

“I mean, the only moment in my life when I’ve been more focused on my race is when I started dating my husband. Then I realised what it felt like to be treated as a Black lady “Meghan stated. “Because I had previously been treated as a mixed woman. And then everything changed.”
