Travis Scott’s first festival performance since Astroworld tragedy
After 10 people died at Astroworld Festival last year, Travis Scott joined pal Future on stage this weekend at Rolling Loud in Miami for a surprise performance
Travis Scott has returned to the festival circuit.
The Grammy Award nominee, 31, made an unexpected appearance during Future’s set at Rolling Loud in Miami on Saturday – his first music festival appearance since last year’s Astroworld disaster, which killed ten concertgoers.
He appeared with Future, 38, near the end of his set, and they played their collaboration “Hold That Heat” before moving on to Scott’s tunes “Goosebumps” and “No Bystanders.”
Scott later played in front of a packed house at Miami nightclub E11EVEN, where he last appeared in May.
During the November Astroworld Festival incident, ten persons were killed in a mob surge. The artist behind Utopia has since volunteered to pay for the victims’ funeral costs, but numerous families have declined. Scott is currently the subject of a class action lawsuit filed on behalf of approximately 2,800 other victims.
Scott announced Project HEAL, a series of community-focused charitable activities, in March, and stated that he’s taken time to “grieve, ponder, and do my part to heal my community” in preparation for its launch.
“Most importantly, I want to use my resources and platform moving forward towards actionable change,” Scott wrote on Instagram at the time. “This will be a lifelong journey for me and my family.”
Scott interrupted his performance earlier this month at The Day Party: Independence Day concert in Coney Island, Brooklyn, to guarantee the safety of fans who were seen ascending a lighting installation.
“Hey there, my bro, my brother, just make sure you’re okay. Can you hear me?” As the audience members descended, he said into the microphone, and the show continued.
A rep for Scott told the media “Travis is committed to doing his part to ensure events are as safe as possible so that fans can have fun, and he encouraged fans to listen to requests from security and climb down from the lighting structures so that everyone would be able to safely enjoy last night’s performance.”
In April, Scott was announced as a headliner for Primavera Sound’s upcoming festivals in São Paulo, Buenos Aires, and Santiago de Chile alongside artists including Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, Lorde, and Björk.
