Paddington 3 officially begins without director Paul King

Paddington 3 is no longer Paddington 3 since it now has an official title. And with its official title comes its official director.

It’s been five years since we’ve seen our favorite little bear. Thank heavens it’s almost time to prepare some soapy sponges to clean up all the sticky sweet marmalade we’ll be consuming in honor of Paddington Bear. According to The Hollywood ReporterPaddington 3 has a new director and an official title:  Paddington in Peru.

Paddington in Peru will be directed by commercial filmmaker Dougal Wilson, who will be making his feature directorial debut. Wilson has directed music videos for Benny Benassi’s “Satisfaction, “Basement Jaxx’s “Take Me Back to Your House,” and Coldplay’s “Life in Technicolor II,” to mention a few.

Paul King, the director of the previous two films, is currently busy with Wonka, the Timothée Chalamet-led Charlie, and the Chocolate Factory prequel. Although King has left a large floppy red hat to fill, he believes Wilson is up to the challenge.  King also gave a statement expressing his confidence in Wilson.

“After 10 years of working on the Paddington movies, I feel absurdly protective of the little bear, and I’m delighted that Dougal will be there to hold his paw as he embarks on his third big-screen adventure,” said King. “Dougal’s work is never less than astounding: funny, beautiful, heartfelt, imaginative, and totally original. Aunt Lucy once asked us to ‘Please Look After This Bear.’ I know Dougal will do so admirably.”

That doesn’t mean King is off the hook; the man is still encircled by the little bear’s claw. With Paddington alums Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton, King will executive produce and write the film’s story.

Production begins in 2023, and Paddington in Peru will take Machu Picchu by storm. The release date for the film has yet to be determined.
